Bombay HC reserves ruling on Punjab plea against Virk

Mumbai, August 18: The Bombay High Court today reserved judgement on Punjab Government’s petition challenging Mumbai CAT’s order staying departmental inquiry against Maharashtra Director General of Police S S Virk.

Punjab Government initiated an inquiry against Virk, a Maharashtra cadre IPS officer who was on deputation in the northern state, in April 2007, based on allegations of corruption.

Virk was later sent back to Maharashtra, where he was appointed DGP early this year.

He moved the Mumbai bench of Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT, which stayed the inquiry.

Punjab Government has moved the High Court, saying Mumbai CAT had no jurisdiction to stay the probe.
