On Monday, an unidentified caller informed the Saroornagar police that a bomb has been planted on the premises of Sri Saibaba temple at Dilsukhnagar.
Taking no chances, the bomb and dog squads rushed to the spot, evacuated devotees and thoroughly checked the temple premises and found nothing. The police concluded that the phone call was a hoax.
It may be mentioned here that the Dilsukhnagar Saibaba temple has been a target of terrorists. In 2002, a cycle bomb was placed near the temple, injuring a few persons. In 2007, a bomb was planted near the temple. However, the police managed to successfully diffuse the bomb before it exploded. Two other bombs – one at Lumbini Park and the other at Gokul Chat Bhandar – exploded killing scores.
In 2013, two bombs exploded close to the temple – one at A1u Mirchi Bajji vend and the other at the Venkatadri cine theatre. (NSS)
