New Delhi: A bomb threat call received at a Delhi airport on Wednesday delayed two international flights to Kathmandu, the flights finally took off after a thorough search.
Nothing was found after search. Police registered a case and were looking for the caller.
Officials said that Air India and Jet Airways flights to Kathmandu could not take off at their scheduled time.
The afternoon flights, which are in quick succession of each other, were halted and sent to the isolation bay when they were preparing for departure in the wake of the bomb threat call received by airport police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Indira Gandhi International Airport) DK Gupta said the flights were thoroughly searched and nothing was found. “They later took off. We have registered a case against unknown caller and are trying to trace him,” he said.
Airport police officials said they had received a call that there were bombs in two planes. A decision was taken to ground the flights.
Air India tweeted later that its Kathmandu-bound flight took off after a change of aircraft.
“#AI215 DEL-KTM, which was delayed due to bomb threat took off at 1950 hrs with a change in aircraft after security clearances,” it said.
Jet Airways had said earlier that its Flight 9W260 to Kathmandu had been delayed due to security alert.
