Patiala, January 19: A bomb that was found outside an LPG bottling plant in Nabha in this district was today defused by a bomb disposal squad of Punjab Police.
The bomb disposal squad from Jalandhar reached the spot and defused the bomb under the supervision of senior officials from the Forensic Science Laboratory.
The bomb, which was placed in a canister and wrapped in a ‘lohi’ (men’s shawl) inside a plastic bag, was found last evening, Patiala SSP R S Khatra said.
Meanwhile, IG Patiala zone Paramjit Singh Gill said the timely discovery of the bomb had averted a major tragedy.
The area had been cordoned off and gunny bags placed around the object by police last night.
The discovery of the bomb had led to panic among people and company officials, Gill said.
