Bomb blast wounds 3 in north Lebanon

Beirut, August 13: A small bomb blast in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli has wounded three people, including a child, residents and security officials say.

Zein al-Alouf, 10, was seriously wounded when the bomb exploded in the mainly Alawite Jabal Mohsen area of the port city of Tripoli on Thursday. Two adults also suffered injuries.

The army has launched an investigation into the incident.

Last year, Tripoli was the scene of deadly sectarian violence between Sunni supporters of the government and their rivals from the Alawite community.

The fighting, which lasted for four months, was halted by a reconciliation agreement signed in September.

In the summer of 2007, the Lebanese army fought a 15-week battle with the al-Qaeda inspired Fatah al-Islam group in the Palestinian refugee camp of Nahr al-Bared near Tripoli that left 400 people dead, including 168 soldiers.
