Bomb blast kills five police officers in Iraq

Baghdad, February 22: A bomb explosion has killed five police officers in Diyala province of Iraq, police say.

The bomb targeted a patrol of police assigned to protect power installations near Khanaqin, 140 km (86 miles) northeast of Baghdad, Reuters reported.

Iraqi officials expect an increase in violence ahead of the March 7 elections.

Iraq has been witnessing violence ever since the US invaded the oil-rich country under the pretext of finding weapons of mass destruction in March 2003.
