Kabul, May 09: A bomb attack near a government office in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Laghman has killed five civilians and wounded five others.
“Five civilians were killed and another five civilians were wounded” in the bombing in Qarghayi, provincial spokesman Faizanullah Pattan told AFP.
So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the Taliban is believed to be behind the attack in light of the recent developments in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar, where several government buildings and instillations were heavily targeted.
The fighting between Afghan security forces and militants left 23 people dead and 55 others wounded.
The fighting started after the Taliban attacked several locations in Kandahar, including the governor’s compound, the mayor’s office, three police stations and two high schools.
Taliban militants have already warned of a fresh wave of attacks against foreign troops, Afghan security forces and government officials.
The surge in violence comes despite the presence of 150,000 foreign troops in Afghanistan.
The violence comes one week after Taliban militants warned of a fresh wave of attacks against foreign troops, Afghan security forces and government officials.
