Bomb blast kills Afghan police chief

Kabul, March 11: A blast in northern Afghanistan has killed at least three people and injured several others, including the police chief of Konduz province.

Police Chief Abdul Rahman Sayed-Khili was on patrol with scores of policemen when the bomber detonated an explosive device, Reuters stated.

“We have received three dead police, including the police chief, and eight wounded,” a doctor at Konduz hospital said.

“After the attack there was some gunfire in the city and now NATO helicopters are flying over the city,” Governor Mohammad Anwar Jigdalek told Reuters.

The number of fatalities is likely to rise. No person or group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

German troops based in Konduz province in northern Afghanistan had killed a civilian woman and injured another on Wednesday.

The woman was killed inside her house when soldiers opened fire at her, and the other was a bystander who was injured when the firing happened.

The majority of the more than 4,400 German troops present in Afghanistan are stationed in Konduz province.
