Bomb blast kills 8 in north Iraq

Baghdad, June 21: A bomb explosion has targeted a market in the northern Iraqi province of Salahuddin, claiming the lives of eight people and leaving at least 10 others wounded.

The incident came late on Sunday when a bomber blew up his explosives belt in the town of Shirqat, some 185 miles (300 kilometers) north of Baghdad, as police and civilians had gathered to inspect the site of a roadside bomb which went off minutes earlier, Reuters reported.

Six policemen and two civilians were killed in the second explosion, according to officials in Iraq’s Interior Ministry.

According to Iraqi security sources, no one had been hurt in the first bombing.

The Iraqi capital was also the scene of multiple bomb and rocket explosions on Sunday, which killed a total of 26 people and wounded 53 more.
