Kabul, April 15: A bomb attack has killed a prominent police chief and at least two other police officers in the troubled southern Afghanistan, officials say.
The bomb attack targeted the police headquarters of Kandahar city, a Media correspondent reported.
A governor spokesman says the bomber detonated his explosives as police chief Khan Mohammad Mujahid was leaving the headquarters in the provincial capital.
No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack.
There has been an upsurge in anti-government violence in recent weeks, with foreign and Afghan forces falling prey to Taliban militants on nearly a daily basis.
The security situation has been steadily deteriorating in Afghanistan despite the presence of about 150,000 US-led foreign troops in the country.
NATO has admitted that militants have increased their power in Afghanistan since the 2001 US-led invasion.
The invasion of Afghanistan took place with the official objective of curbing militancy and bringing peace and stability to the country. Ten years on, however, Afghanistan remains unstable and civilians continue to pay the price.
