Bollywood lack guts to question Islamic practices in movies: Naseeruddin Shah

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has stirred up a debate again saying that producers in Bollywood don’t have the guts to criticise Islamic practices.

They lack the courage to make movies critical of Islamic practices, said the 65 years old.

Reacting to a question posed by the media persons, Shah said movie like PK seeks to criticise Hindu customs but does not focus on Islamic ones in as much detail.

“This is a question you should ask (PK director) Rajkumar Hirani. Why did he not equally criticise Islamic customs in the movie? In Pakistan they had the guts to produce a movie like Khuda Ke Liye. But no one has dared to make a film like that in India so far. Do you know why?” Shah countered.

Filmmaker, Pritish Nandy, agrees with Shah and further said that the film industry is scared to show any religious minority group in a negative light.

“Filmmakers in India try not to offend religious minorities. Anyone who knows Naseeruddin knows that he only says things after he observes what’s going on in society,” says Nandy.

Recently, Shah was under fire from Shiv Sena on his controversial comments about Pakistan that ‘people in India are brainwashed to believe that Pakistan is their country’s enemy’.
