Boko Haram has kidnapped 1000 children so far

Abuja: While the Nigerian government is gearing up for awareness campaign and functions on the occasion of 4th anniversary of kidnapping incident of hundreds of school girls by terrorist organisation Boko Haram, the UNICEF in its report has revealed that the terrorist organisation has kidnapped thousands of children since 2003. In its report, UNICEF stated that Boko Haram has abducted 1000 children in the north-east region of Nigeria, including 276 girls who were taken from a school in the town of Chibok in 2014.

UNICEF Representative in Nigeria Mohamed Malick Fall further informed that 20000 people have been killed while 20 lakh have been displaced due to attack by Boko Haram. The organization targets particularly such schools where the syllabus of education is secular. Since the conflict started in northeastern Nigeria nearly nine years ago, at least 2,295 teachers have been killed and more than 1,400 schools have been destroyed. Though the Nigerian President Mohammed Bukhari ran a successful campaign for eliminating Boko Haram and succeeded in freeing a large region, the terrorist organisation is still making deadly attacks on the military and citizens. In February Boko Haram had kidnapped 100 school children.
