Boko Haram captures key military base in Nigerian town of Baga

Boko Haram militant group has captured a key multinational military base in Baga in the north-eastern part of Nigeria, said officials and eyewitnesses.

Baga town of Nigeria was the last town in Borno North under government rule which was also the scene of a Nigerian army massacre in 2013.

According to BBC, a senator in Borno state said that the base was abandoned by troops in the town of Baga after it was attacked on Saturday.

Residents in the Baga area had fled by boat to the neighbouring Chad while many people had been killed and the town was set on fire.

The militant group attacks various towns and villages in Nigeria on a daily basis and kidnaps people including children.
