Mumbai: The spiritual leader of Dawoodi Bohra community urging Indian followers to continue the practice of the centuries-old female genital mutilation (FGM).
Several members of the community authenticated the audio clip of Syedna Muffadal Saifuddin’s speech at a Mumbai mosque, as per reports published in Reuters.
According to a transcript, he said: “The act must be done. It needs to be done discreetly when it is a woman, but it needs to be done.”
Little is known about FGM as it is not just being practiced in Africa but in the heart of Mumbai in great secrecy by the Dawoodi Bohra community, a Shi’ite Muslim section.
