The body of an Indian man who was found dead over two years ago in a suburb of Saudi Arabia’s Jubail city is still lying in a morgue, according to a media report.
The Indian Embassy has been seeking answers to questions like the cause of his death.
An embassy official was quoted as saying that they cannot receive any dead body without a medical report clearly stating the cause of death.
Another issue hindering progress of repatriation is that the hospital where the body has been lying has claimed it has no casket to send the body home, the Saudi Gazette reported.
The procedures of sending the body home are completed after the receipt of the police report but the process was further delayed due to the unavailability of a casket, the official said.
The man, whose identity has not been given, was allegedly murdered by an unidentified killer in 2011.
Another reason behind the delay is that neither the deceased’s family nor his sponsor was willing to pay the cost of the casket, the report said.
Thousands of bodies of expatriate workers in Saudi Arabia remain in hospital mortuaries awaiting repatriation.
Mortuaries in the country received 5,555 bodies of expatriates last year, of which 1,791 bodies were either repatriated or buried while 3,764 are still lying in various hospital morgues, the report said.
