Dehra Dun, October 05: Four police personnel have been suspended and a case registered against them for allegedly throwing a woman”s body into a canal near here, officials said today. Sub-Inspector Raghubir Singh, also incharge of Harbartpur police post where the incident took place, and three constables were suspended last evening after preliminary investigations suggested that they allegedly threw the woman”s body into the Shakti canal, Station House Officer of Vikasnagar J C Pathak said.
A case has been registered against the suspended cops and a loading vehicle driver Kalwa under IPC Section 201 for allegedly trying to destroy evidence by throwing the body into the canal, he said. The body of the woman was carried to the canal in Kalwa”s vehicle.
The body thrown in Harbartpur area, 55 kms from here, was recovered at Hathinikund area of Yamunanagar district in Haryana. She has been identified as Rukhsana Begum, a resident of Dhakrani in Vikasnagar area of Dehra Dun district, who was missing since October 3.
Pathak said a postmortem of Rukhsana”s body is being conducted in Rohtak town. Police is awaiting the report so that the cause and time of the death could be ascertained and investigations carried out further.
Four policemen on Saturday night were seen allegedly throwing the woman”s body into the canal by residents of Kulhal area in Harbartpur. However, the policemen denied the charge saying they were only trying to fish out the body from the canal.
An inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
