Islamabad, August 31: Amid reports that Pakistan army has resorted to extra-judicial killings in areas seized from Taliban control, bodies of 29 suspected militants have been found in different parts of the restive Swat valley, reports said today.
The bodies were found at Banjot, Gharai Sar and Parkho near Charbagh, a former stronghold of Taliban militants in the valley located 160 km from Islamabad.
The cause of their death could not immediately be ascertained.
Geo News channel reported that the militants were killed during an operation by security forces last night.
Over the past few weeks, dozens of bodies of suspected militants have been found in Swat. Rights groups have said the security forces are resorting to extra-judicial killings after wresting control of Swat from the Taliban.
The army has denied the charge and said the militants could have been killed by local residents in retaliation for excesses committed by the Taliban when they controlled most parts of Swat.
Earlier this month, the bullet-riddled and mutilated bodies of at least 18 militants were found in different parts of the valley, including Mingora, the main city in Swat.
In another incident, two militants were killed in a clash with security forces, the army-run media centre in Swat said.
