Blind man car rally flagged off

Aircel, in association with Round Table India, National Association of Blind and AP Motor Sports Club organised ‘Blind Man Car Rally’ here on Sunday at Radisson Hotel at Gachibowli. The Rally was flagged off by Actress Madhu Shalini, Hamir Bakshi, Regional Business Head—South of Aircel. Round table members Riaz, Area Chairman; Sumit Vice Chairman, Kishore Past Chairman were present.
The rally was organized with an aim to encourage and showcase abilities of visually impaired. Over 56 people with support from visually impaired as navigators drove cars on a pre-decided route of the rally. The route details were given in Braille language and the visually impaired used Braille maps to navigate and guide drivers. The rally was held, based on the TSD (Time, Speed, Distance) concept. After flagging off at Hotel Radisson it ended at the same venue covering a total of 50 kilometers at 1pm At the end of the rally, Prizes were distributed in the afternoon by Hardeep Singh, Circle Business Head of Aircel.
The funds generated from the event will be utilized for the constructions of government school buildings, said Kishore, Former Area Chairman of Round Table. He said millions of Indian children have never, ever been to school and to reach out to this group of underprivileged children, the Round Table India started adopting projects aimed at providing quality school infrastructure. Through its National Project “Freedom Through Education” – it has built 4,712 classrooms in 1720 government schools at a total outlay of Rs 130 crores impacting the education of 5.2 million children.
Speaking on the occasion, actress Madhushalini said visually impaired may not have vision, but they look through their brains eye. Being born blind shouldn’t be a curse. Blind too have abilities like any other normal individual and they are capable of many things. Society must recognise this, she said. “We must provide better employment opportunities to the blind as they are not less than any ordinary human beings”, she added.
Hamir Bakshi, Regional Business Head- South II, Aircel also spoke. Telkar S. Baba of National Association of Blind said they would provide placement services to the blind. Visually challenged can be ideally employed in call centers, massage centers and others. There is an exclusive call center for blind in Mumbai. Hyderabad will soon have one exclusive call center for blind, he added. (NSS)
