Mosul, January 05: At least fifteen people have obtained injuries in two separate bombing attacks across Iraq’s third largest city, Mosul.
In an incident on Monday, five civilians were wounded as a thermal bomb exploded in close proximity to a police patrol vehicle on al-Nujaifi Street in the center of the conflict-plagued city.
“No patrolmen were wounded in the blast,” a security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency on condition of anonymity.
Security forces cordoned off the area after the attack and launched an investigation into motive behind the terrorist act. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital to receive medical treatment.
In eastern Mosul, ten other Iraqis civilians were injured, also on Monday, when an explosives-laden car blew up at a popular market in the Bartala neighborhood.
The explosion in Bartala caused significant damage to several stores and cars parked near the market.
In another attack, an unidentified assailant threw a hand grenade at a police car in central Mosul.
“On Monday, an armed man threw a hand grenade at a police patrol vehicle in al-Kourniesh Street, central Mosul. The grenade however did not detonate,” a local police official, who asked not to be named, said.
Mosul, the capital city of Iraq’s Nineveh province is situated some 396 km (250 miles) northwest of Baghdad.
