Blast injures 3 Afghan children

Kabul, May 21: At least one Afghan civilian has been killed and three children wounded after a roadside bomb detonated in southern part of the country.

The explosion occurred in Kandahar city on Friday morning, said Abdul Ali, an intelligence official who was at the scene, the Associated Press reported.

The three injured children were taken to local hospitals, the official added.

The blast also damaged an Afghan intelligence service vehicle passing the road.

Countless numbers of Afghan civilians have lost their lives since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.

The increasing rate of civilian fatalities is caused by both US operations in different areas of the war-ravaged country and by militant bombings.

Last week, thousands of Afghan people rallied in eastern part of the country to protest against the killing of civilians by US-led troops.

In another incident in the country, the Taliban claimed that it assaulted a military base in southeast, killing at least 50 US-led troops and Afghan soldiers.
