Five workers were grievously injured in an explosion occurred in Bharat Dynamics Limited, a Defence laboratory at Kanchanbagh here on Saturday, according to Arup Kumar Maiti, GM (BD).
In a pressnote here this evening, the BDL official stated that the explosion occurred while a small quantity of waste explosive material was being disposed off as a routine practice at Burning Pit on BDL premises at Kanchanbagh. “All the four injured workers were being treated at the Apollo DRDO hospital. Best of treatment was being given to the injured”, he stated, adding that burning pit is one km away from the production facilities.
Soon after the accident, Deputy Chief Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali visited Apollo Hospital, DRDO, Kanchanbagh at 1 pm and consoled the injured employees — Naveen Goud, Wahab, S. P. Singh, Razzaq and Gopal Rao. He also met their family members and requested the Hospital authorities to provide best treatment with special care. The Deputy CM has also spoken to Uday Bhaskar, Chairman & Managing Director, BDL, for arranging better treatment to the employees and also requested him to make necessary arrangements to prevent such incidents in future.
