Tehran, April 09: An explosion in the Iranian province of Qom has ripped through three main gas pipelines delivering natural gas from the country’s south to the north, a report says.
Friday’s blast took place around the town of Delijan in the province of Qom, temporarily disrupting gas delivery from south Iran refineries to the north and northwest,
Rescue and maintenance teams were immediately dispatched to the region in order to monitor the situation.
There have been no reports of casualties as the teams are ramping up efforts to restore the gas flow, the report indicates.
The explosion occurred around a road to Qom some 74 Kms away from Delijan.
It ripped three 56-inch (142-centimeter) diameter gas pipelines that, overall, carried 250 million cubic meters of natural gas from the South Pars, Parsian and Fajr-e Jam gas works to northern areas.
Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister Javad Owji, who is also the managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company, says the ministry has convened a special committee to repair the pipeline.
The report does not include the reasons for the incident.
