Blast in Central Afghanistan leaves 5 people killed: Reports

Moscow [Russia]: As many as five people were killed and 12 others were injured as a result of an explosion in central Afghanistan, local media reported on Saturday citing police.

A car bomb has exploded in central Wardak province, targeting a local police department, according the 1TV broadcaster.

The Taliban radical movement has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Pajhwok news agency reported later on Saturday citing the local health department that the death toll in the blast had risen to seven, including one police officer, while the number of those injured climbed to 37.

Afghanistan has long been suffering from an unstable political, social and security situation due to simmering Taliban insurgency. The violence is exacerbated by the activities of various terrorist groups, including the Islamic State (IS, banned in Russia).
