Hyderabad, July 01: Revolutionary writer Varavara Rao today demanded that the Centre immediately put an end to `Green Hunt’ in Chhattisgarh to pave the way for peace and possible talks between the government and Maoists.
Responding to Tuesday’s attack on CRPF personnel by Maoists, Rao blamed the government for such incidents. “It is time the government at the Centre decides whether it works for the poor and tribals or for multinational companies. Deployment of huge number of paramilitary personnel will invariably lead to counter attacks and loss of lives,” Rao averred.
The revolutionary writer pointed out that the Maoist group, on more than one occasion, has made it clear it was willing for talks provided the government stopped deployment of forces to kill its cadres. “The government should prove its sincerity.
It cannot say that it is willing for talks and at the same time make efforts to mobilise opinion of state governments in favour of use of armed forces to root out Naxalites,” he pointed out.
Rao demanded that the bodies of Maoists killed in Tuesday’s encounter should be handed over to their relatives.
