Majority of the ration shop dealers sell the food items provided by the concerned department in black market which results in shortage of food items. Then the ration shop dealers without hesitation tell the ration card owners that so and so item is finished. Come later. Thus they force the public to make rounds of the ration shops in vain. Public do not get all food items even after standing hours in the queue.
In this photo you can see a kirana shop owner taking along with him a sugar bag from a ration shop at old city on a holiday.
Following a tip off from the locals when Siasat correspondent contacted concerned civil supplies inspector he assured to make them put back the said items and also assured that such thing will not happen again. When explanation was sought from the ration dealers they started giving various excuses. Later they told that the commission they get is so less that if they distribute all items honestly among the public it will not be possible for them to make both ends meet. Hence sometimes they have to resort to such unlawful practices.
