Hyderabad, July 01: Anwarullah Khan alias Dr Anwar Khan who is popularly known in the locality as Disco Baba who allegedly cheated many people claiming he had divine powers to end their misery was detained by Shahinyatgunj police on Tuesday.
Two motorcycles, Rs. property worth Rs 3.75 lakh cash, gold coated brass biscuits and fake American diamonds were recovered from his possession.
Shaik Khalid, a horse stable owner of Chudi Bazaar alleged that Disco Baba told him about the presence of a treasure and duped him to the tune of Rs 8.5 lakh by “performing black magic” to unearth hidden treasure in his house.
A Venkateswara Rao, Deputy Commissioner of police (DCP), West Zone said, the accused posed as mullah, pretended to perform black magic by digging a hole in the house of the victim to gain their faith by pouring milk and water into it while chanting some mantra.
“After the ritual, Anwar Khan “pulled out” some gold-polished brass biscuits from the pit and handed them over to the victim. Believing that Anwar Khan had given them gold biscuits, the victim paid them lakhs of rupees in cash,” the DCP added.
Khalid got suspicious and realized that he was duped and lodged a complaint with police. Investigation revealed that several cheating cases were booked against Dicso Baba at Kulsumpura, Asif Nagar and Habeeb Nagar police stations limits.
He was detained for cheating and duping and remanded in judicial custody.
