St. Louis: On Thursday, US judge ruled in favour of Black Lives Matter Movement and said that Louisiana police officer cannot sue the campaign.
Giving the reason, the judge said that as it a social movement, it cannot be held responsible for the injuries he got at a protest.
Police officer sued the movement and an activist after he got injured during a protest in July 2016 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
It may be mentioned that the Black Lives Matter movement started with the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter on social media in 2012 after Trayvon Martin, high school student shot dead in Sanford, Florida.
This movement turned into a nationwide campaign against the excessive use of police force against black men.
In the ruling, the judge said that the social movement including Black Lives Matter, Civil Rights Movement, LGBT rights movement, Tea Party Movement cannot be sued.
Judge also dismissed the case as the officer has failed to produce sufficient evidence against any group or individual.
Responding to the judgment, Billy Gibbens, an attorney for DeRay Mckesson, the activist who was named in the lawsuit said that the court was correct.
