JODHPUR: A Jodhpur court on Thursday convicted Bollywood actor Salman Khan for five years in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case.
A court in Jodhpur called him a “habitual offender” and a penalty of Rs 10,000 has also been levied on him.
According to News18 reports, the 52-year-old actor has been taken into custody and a warrant is being prepared.
He will be taken to the civil hospital for a medical examination and then to Jodhpur Central Jail where rape convict Asaram Bapu is jailed. He will be housed in barrack number 2, reported NDTV.

Salman is sentenced to more than 3 years in jail, this means he cannot get bail from Jodhpur court and the bail application has been move to Rajasthan High Court.
Public Prosecutor Bhawani Singh, who has demanded the maximum punishment told to CNN News18: “We are happy with the judgment. I haven’t read the complete order. Salman Khan has been given 5 year simple imprisonment and ten thousand fine. If he files an appeal and the court considers it, then he can get the bail.”

Earlier in the day, Salman Khan was convicted under Section 9/51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972 in the case which took place while he was shooting for the film “Hum Saath-Saath Hain” in 1998.
Other accused in the case – Tabu, Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Neelam – were acquitted of all charges for lack of evidence, while the ‘Sultan’ actor was held in the court.
The trial of the case was in progress since the last 19 years and the judge in a court here had reserved the order after the final arguments on March 28.
Arguments were in progress in the court regarding the quantum of punishment for Salman.
“Conviction has been done but the quantum of punishment has not been pronounced yet. Court has reserved the order, maximum punishment of 6 years demanded,” Public prosecutor Bhawani Singh has told CNN News18.
