Alipiri police on Monday arrested six persons, including Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) State secretary Rata Viswanath, on the charges of gang-rape, extortion and also organising brothel, two other brothel owners too were arrested along with them.
The investigation led to the arrest of the culprits, he said. Viswantha and the three youths posing as crime police used to threaten the brothel owners and also the sex workers and extorted money. They went to a brothel organised by one Vamsi in Srinagar locality and had sex with women there on February 27.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ravisankar Reddy said the police, acting on a complaint received from a woman to “Dial 100,” took up the investigation.
Again, they went to another brothel run by one Gangadhar on March 10. There they gang-raped a women and wanted Gangadhar to keep her there for some more days, the DSP said.
Fearing about her safety, the woman dialled 100 and complained to the police here. Alipiri police took up investigation and arrested BJYM leader and three of his friends who included Pradip, Hemanth and Damu. Cases under various sections, including rape, extortion were registered against the accused.
