Chandigarh: The BJP’s Kisan Morcha today threatened to gherao Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s residence tomorrow over his government’s “failure” to implement the farm debt waiver.
Punjab BJP vice-president Harjit Singh Grewal and party secretary Vineet Joshi said the chief minister “failed” to keep his pre-poll promise of announcing a full loan waiver to farmers.
Punjab’s farmers have been betrayed and this is the reason they continue to commit suicide despite the chief minister announcing a “partial” loan waiver, the BJP leaders alleged.
They claimed that 160 farmers have ended their lives since the Congress government took over on March 16 this year.
Joshi said farmers from all across the state would gather at the BJP headquarters on August 4 and then march towards the CM’s residence under the leadership of BJP Kisan Morcha president Sukhpal Singh Nannu.
