BJP floor leader G. Kishan Reddy has ridiculed Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s statement wherein he stated that TRS Government would give reservation to the backward classes of Muslims in Telangana State.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Kishan Reddy said that the Chief Minister was trying to mislead the people with his statement. He said there were no classes or castes among Muslims and this could be confirmed by any Islamic cleric. However, the Chief Minister tried to mislead the Legislative Assembly by saying that the reservations were being on the basis of backwardness. He said the BJP was against giving reservations on the basis of religion and it would wage a political and legal battle to stop Muslim reservation at any cost.
Kishan Reddy said that the case of Tamil Nadu model of reservation was still going in the Supreme Court and therefore, it could not be considered as a precedent. He said it was unclear whether the Chief Minister was trying to benefit or harm the Muslim community by promising 12% reservation which is not practically and constitutionally not possible.
The BJP leader also accused the TRS Government of pushing the Telangana State into debt trap. He said that the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, in its report presented in the Assembly on Monday, has nailed the lies of TRS Government on State’s finances. He said he would write a letter to President of India, Governor and Speaker requesting them to change the practice of presenting the CAG report on the last day of budget session. He said that the report should be presented on the first day so that the legislators could give their suggestions on rectifying the mistakes. (INN)
