BJP wants GHMC to stop tax collection forthwith

BJP Greater Hyderabad president B Venkat Reddy today demanded that the State government immediately stop collection of property tax by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
In a statement here on Friday, Venkat Reddy alleged that the GHMC, instead of providing basic amenities to the citizens was feverishly collecting property tax forcibly to increase its revenue. The GHMC, instead of collecting property tax from big fish, who became defaulters, was fleecing the poor by collecting property tax forcibly, he alleged.
The BJP leader also demanded that the GHMC slash the property tax and stop collecting it from poor people. Over 11 lakh people had submitted applications under various housing schemes like Indiramma, Rajiv Swagruh and Rajiv Gruhakalpa schemes, he said, adding that it was astonishing to hear that Chief Minister wanted to construct only two lakh houses.
