Several activists and leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party were taken into custody by the Hyderabad City Police when they tried to hoist national flag at historic Golconda Fort on the occasion of Hyderabad Liberation Day on Wednesday.
The BJP leaders were prevented from entering the Golconda Fort to hoist the national flag following denial of permission by the Telangana Government. Barricades were also erected at all routes leading towards the fort. Earlier, Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy hoisted the national flag at party office at Nampally. Accompanied with Secunderabad MP Bandaru Dattatreyya, MLAs NVSS Prabhakar, Dr K Lakshman, Chintala Ramchandra Reddy and Raja Singh, he then proceeded to Gun Park where tri-colour was unfurled.
The BJP leaders then went to Bapu Ghat at Langar Houz to proceeds towards the Golconda Fort. However, they were taken into custody and shifted to Goshamahal Police Stadium.
Speaking to media persons, Kishan Reddy strongly condemned the arrest of BJP leaders and workers for trying to hoist the national flag. Instead of celebrating the occasion at official level, the TRS Government is taking action against those who celebrated the Hyderabad Liberation Day. He alleged that the TRS Government was acting at the behest of MIM and for the same reason it did not celebration the Liberation Day. He said that the Telangana Government should emulate the Karnataka and Maharashtra Governments which have organised official functions on Tuesday to mark the occasion.
Kishan Reddy announced that the BJP would continue its struggle till the State Government starts celebrating the Liberation Day officially. (INN)
