New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday alleged that a ‘politically immature’ Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is unnecessarily trying to drag the names of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in PhD scholar Rohith Vemula’s suicide and held the grand old party responsible for the present state of affairs of the Dalit community.
“Gandhi should introspect today as to what went wrong in the governance of the Congress Party for the last 65 years after independence that the situation of Dalit stands where it was during independence,” said BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra.
“Gandhi is trying to politicise the issue of Rohith Vemula’s suicide and is also trying to drag in the name of Prime Minister Modi and the RSS, which shows his political immaturity. Had he been politically matured, instead of criticising the Prime Minister, he would be introspecting (on the failure of the Congress government),” he added.
The Congress vice-president, who sat on a fast with the agitating students at the University of Hyderabad yesterday, accused Prime Minister Modi and the RSS of trying to crush the spirit of youngsters by imposing one idea.
Objecting to some students of the university being called ‘anti-national’, Gandhi urged the students to fight forces that curtailed freedom.
He also drew a parallel between Rohith Vemula’s death and Mahatma Gandhi, whose death anniversary fell on Saturday. (ANI)
