BJP team to study weavers’ problems

Hyderabad, June 09: BJP national president Nitin Gadkari has announced that a committee of party MPs would be deputed to the State to study the problems of handloom weavers.

Addressing the first meeting of the newly constituted BJP State executive here on Tuesday, Mr. Gadkari referred to suicides by weavers in the State and said their plight was quite pathetic.

The issue would also be raised in Parliament.

Urging party cadre to leave aside petty issues, he told them to focus on the bigger challenges facing the country like poverty alleviation, price rise, farmers’ suicides and unemployment among youth. Hitting out at the UPA government, he said though it had completed one year, the situation was not conducive for the country’s development.

Inflation was 11 per cent and poverty was making life difficult for the common man.

He said 41 crore people were living below the poverty line and this was the fruit of Congress rule.

Appreciating the enthusiasm displayed by the cadre during his visit, the BJP president told them that the infighting in the ruling party in the State and the improper functioning of the government provided an opportunity to the BJP to seek people’s support.

He advised the workers to visit villages and expand the party’s base by recruiting new members.

Stating that BJP was a party with a difference, Mr. Gadkari said he had joined the party as an ordinary worker and never dreamt of becoming its president.

“ Is it possible in other parties”, he asked and added that it could happen only in BJP. Even if Prime Minister Manmohan Singh dreams of becoming president of his party, it would not be possible as that post was “reserved for the Gandhi family”.

The BJP alone had capability to change the future of the country and make it an economic super power.

State BJP president G. Kishan Reddy said there was good scope for the BJP to emerge as an alternative to both Congress and TDP.

Urging party functionaries to work in that direction, he said an action plan would be chalked out to launch agitations on people’s issues.
