Guwahati: AIUDF Chief and Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal today accused the BJP-led Centre of “targetting politicians of the minority community” saying it is evident from the raids in a hotel room where he was staying and the house of Assam minister Rakibul Hussain.
“A search was conducted by a team of officials of the election and Income Tax department in my room at a private resort last evening at around the same time as in the minister’s house,” Ajmal told reporters here.
Hussain, a prominent minority leader, alleged “I, too, belong to the same community. The simultaneous raid on two minority leaders of the state cannot be a coincidence but reflects BJP’s communal policy”.
The secular forces in the state must unite to fight against such divisive forces and expose their “intolerant politics,” the Dhubri MP said.
Ajmal claimed that he cooperated with the officials who found nothing incriminating in his room.
Assam Agriculture Minister Rakibul Hussain’s vehicle and residence were searched by a team of election department officials, including the Election Expenditure Observer, and Income Tax department yesterday.
Hussain alleged that the raids were “politically motivated” and conducted to defame him at the behest of a former colleague who joined BJP last year.
The minister had also filed a police complaint in this connection last night.
The Election Expenditure Observer and other election department officials, however, refused to comment on the raids.
