BJP sticks to opposition to foreign universities bill

New Delhi, April 13: The efforts of the Government to get support of BJP for passage of a bill to allow the operation of foreign universities in India seem to have failed with the party continuing its opposition to it.

Senior BJP leader and former HRD Minister Murli Manohar Joshi today said that the proposed law would fail to rein in the foreign institutions which will be allowed to set up their campuses in India.

“Now the Government wants to open the education sector for foreign players. Once the bill is passed, foreign educational institutions will be able to set up their campus here. Once they come here, it will be very difficult to rein in them,” he said addressing a conference here.

The Union Cabinet last month approved the Foreign Education Providers (Entry and Operation) Bill, 2010.
