‘BJP-sponsored WB bandh evoked partial response’

Kolkata, November 30: The BJP-sponsored bandh in West Bengal today evoked partial response even as over 500 people were arrested from various places for blockading roads and railways, the state government said

“It cannot be said there had been no response to the bandh call. But nothing much has happened,” Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen told reporters today.

Charging the media with hyping the bandh coverage, he said the trouble was reported from “one or two” places.

To a question, he said more than 500 people were arrested in connection with the bandh.

Chief Secretary Asok Mohan Chakraborty said besides obstructing trains at a number of places, the bandh supporters put up road blockades at Baguihati and Karunamoyee crossing at Salt Lake, as also in some places on the VIP Road.

The National Highway was obstructed at four places in Nadia district, he said, adding, “they have vented their ire on one government bus.
