Senior BJP Leader O Rajagopal today expressed confidence of winning the Neyyatinkara by-election while slamming the UDF ‘for indulging in horse trading’ by fielding Former CPM Leader Selvaraj as its candidate. Addressing the press, he said the BJP is fighting the byelection alone even as UDF and the LDF were taking the help of its allies against his party. Claiming the BJP was neither an anti-Communist or anti- Congress Party, he said the party had its own mission.
However, he said the Congress was the BJP’s main opponent as his party was the principal Opposition party in the Lok Sabha while the Congress was heading the UPA Government at the Centre. He said the Congress-led UDF campaign mainly focused on RMP Leader T Chandrasekharan murder and did not highlight the welfare measures implemented during the last one year in office in the State. Clarifying the BJP was for the guilty to be punished under law, Mr Rajagopal said the UDF was making this murder into a political and campaign issue camouflauging the corruption in government. He alleged Chief minister Oommen Chandy and Union Minister of State for Home Mulappally Ramachandran failed to provide security to Mr Chandrasekharan despite the threats he was facing. He also said intimidating Special Investigation Team probing the murder of T P Chandrasekharan by the CPI(M) was not correct.
