General secretary, state unit Bharatya Janata Party, Mr. N V V N Prabhakar demanded repealing of GO 108 and began 24 hours hunger strike. He said that police are issuing heavy challans on seven seaters and harassing them. These drivers mostly belong to backward classes or unemployed youth while the police are imposing heavy fines of Rs. 1000 to 2000 which is unwarranted. Majority of the auto drivers belong to Muslim communities thus police are targeting them but the leaders don’t seem to take steps to save them from police harassment. Although the government assured that GO MS no 108 will not be implemented still the police harassment against auto drivers is continued unabated.
