New Delhi, July 20: BJP Monday demanded a “thorough probe” into the matter after government conceded in Lok Sabha deficiencies in procurement of bullet proof jackets for defence personnel.
“There should be a probe and the accountability should be fixed. Only the minister accepting that there were deficiencies is not enough,” party spokesperson Prakash Javdekar said.
Earlier today in Lok Sabha, Minister of State (MoS), Defence, M M Pallam Raju conceded that there were shortcomings in bullet proof jackets but added these were not “sub-standard”.
Attacking the government over the issue, the BJP leader alleged,” the materials they purchased were thoroughly bad. Cops of the Mumbai police had lost their life due to it. Either there was corruption involved or the standard of materials itself was bad.”
“These are given to cops for protection of their life but they lose their life due to it.. as long as the guilty are not punished after thorough enquiry, such things will not stop,” Javdekar said.
