BJP says Chidambaram’s answers more technical than being practical: BJP

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Monday said that Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram was more technical in his press conference while the country demands him to be practical.

The BJP leader termed that the sensex cheered with the decision of Chidambaram not contesting this election and thus became more assured of a possible win of the Modi led BJP.

“Your decision to run away from election was the first open confession by a tottering Congress government that has no will to fight. BJP is happy that on behalf of Congress atleast Chidambaram spoke on the economy, but worried as he got retired hurt in the very first ball” Prasad said.

Ravi Shankar Prasad hit back at Chidambaram by saying that the Finance Minister was suffering from selective memory and also charged Chidambaram of being the biggest patron of crony capitalism.

“He (Chidambaram) attacked Yashwant Sinha by stating that he was having a distant memory, while I want to say that he is suffering from selective memory. I want to say that Congress led UPA in general and Chidambaram in particular are the biggest patron of crony capitalism in India. In the 2G, one of the biggest shameful scam of independent India, you ( Chidambaram) were the biggest patron as far as promotion of crony capitalism is concerned. On Aircel-Maxis case is a text book case of crony capitalism, where the CBI investigation is going on . Also the Coalgate scam which is the biggest example of crony capitalism where fly-by night operators who were ineligible were given licence, hence Chidambaram should not speak such white lies which he and his government have practiced,” Prasad added.

Prasad stated that yesterday when Yashwant Sinha had posed 18 questions, Chidambaram did not answer a single thing whether it was on price rise, unemployment, weakening of rupee or even why manufacturing was going down instead he said that the newspapers did not take note of Yashwant Sinha’s questions, but actually it is otherwise if you see today’s dailies. This shows that Chidambaram did not do even this much homework.

“Chidambaram has admitted that 2007-2008 was their (UPA) best year UPA-1 reaped what NDA sowed and UPA-2 suffered the toxic harvest of UPA-1,”Prasad said.

The BJP leader said Chidambaram will soon be self-employed when the UPA is out of power.

Union Finance Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram on Monday expressed confidence that he will be able to pass the baton to a firm hand. Chidambaram sounded positive on the overall economic front and termed that the fundamentals of the economy as strong and the unemployment rate at its lowest levels. He also jeered at the BJP leader Yashwant Sinha’s questions posed at him during the weekend as ‘puerile’.

“Most of the questions are very puerile that is why most of the business papers did not carry them. Mr Yashwant Sinha today is a distant memory to the people of India, and I hope he remains a distant memory. Market celebrations began when Yashwant Sinha had declined to contest elections, continued when Jaswant Singh was expelled,” Chidambaram added.

On Sunday, former finance minister Yashwant Sinha , had accused Chidambaram of being a “spoiler” for the Indian economy and asked him to answer an 18-point questionnaire on inflation, price rise and employment. (ANI)
