New Delhi, January 14: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may soon raise the number of its office bearers at the national level from 30 to 36, followed by a similar arrangement at all levels.
This is to avoid any hard feelings after it implemented 33% reservation for women in all its organisational posts, a source said.
A committee headed by senior leader Bal Apte, formed to look into several proposed changes in the party’s constitution, has finalised this move.
This will not only mean more women on the party’s organisational bodies but a fairer chance to male contenders also to make the team.
The committee, which was set up after the 2009 general elections, deliberated on certain changes suggested by party members.
Among those hopeful of finding a place in the new hierarchy is former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje, who will be moved to the party’s central unit to prevent a split in the state unit.
Poonam Mahajan, daughter of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan is being considered as a possible candidate for the post of secretary, or head of the BJP women’s wing.
The other name from Maharahstra could well be Shaina NC. “Shobha Karandlaje from Karnataka and Saroj Pande are the other names doing the rounds,” a leader said.
