BJP Telangana State party today strongly opposed any move of the TRS government to shift dharna chowk at Indira Park to somewhere else.
In a statement here today, party chief Dr K Laxman said dharna chowk is a place where people would express their ire and protests to bring to the notice of the government of their problems and pending demands. It was the same place where Telangana supporters during separate State agitation had organized a number of protests. The desire of the people of Telangana materialized only after agitations and protests. But the ruling TRS known for its agitation for separate State was now trying to suppress rights of people which is condemnable, the BJP State president said.
The people have rights under the Indian Constitution to express their opposition and protest peacefully demanding to resolve their long pending demands and problems. It was the responsibility of the state government to resolve the issues, the BJP leader said. The State government, by not allowing people to organise protests at Indira park, was trying to contravene the rights of people, Laxman alleged and demanded that the government re-consider if any move of shifting dharna chowk from Indira Park before facing people’s ire.
