BJP ready for early Assembly elections: Gowda

Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda today said the ruling BJP was ready to face assembly polls in the state whenever the election commission feels it fit to hold it. Speaking to mediapersons here on the sidelines of a private function, he said it was left to the election commission to decide the time.

“We will be ready for it,” he said. His comments came ahead of the BJP seeking to go to the polls in December along with the party ruled Gujarat and some other states. The election for Karnataka is due for April/May 2013. “We will not be perturbed if the elections are held early,” the Chief Minister said. Mr Gowda said the delayed cabinet expansion would soon happen and he would finalise it when he visits Delhi later this week. “Various problems within the party has caused the delay of my cabinet expansion but it will happen soon now,” he said. The Chief Minister expressed hope that Monsoon would soon resume with vigour over the state after it weakened soon after its arrival four days late, on June 5.

“Weather experts have said intense rain can be expected in interior parts of the state within the next two days,” the Chief Minister mentioned. “We have information that there will be more widespread rains in the interior parts of the State. Rains during beginning of July will be very important for agricultural operations and we have all hopes that the Monsoon will turn vigorous by then,” Mr Gowda added.
