New Delhi, January 03: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday questioned the credibility of the campaign undertaken by Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.
“The initiatives taken by Rahul Gandhi to empower entire Uttar Pradesh and bring development to the state, we would like to question him about the deal cracked by his party over the killing of innocent people and which direction do they want to take the state of Uttar Pradesh in order to save the prestige of their ruling party,” said BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
It may be recalled here that Rahul Gandhi, who is leaving no stones unturned in garnering support for the Congress, has hit out at the various political parties during his extensive tour of Uttar Pradesh.
The Uttar Pradesh state elections spread through a seven phase polling in the months of February and March, 2012 are seen as an opportunity for the ruling Congress party to re-establish a foothold in its erstwhile political base in the country’s fifth largest and most populous state.
Uttar Pradesh is politically important, as it sends a large number of lawmakers to the Parliament in New Delhi.
Voting in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases starting February 4 and finishing on February 28.
Four other states, including Punjab, will hold elections between January 28 and March 3.
The results of the election would be declared on March 4.
