BJP praising Ambedkar for petty political gain: Sonia

Nagpur: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday said the BJP which earlier opposed and targeted Babasaheb Ambedkar was now praising him for “petty political gain”.

“Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi and his team want to kill the ideology of Babasaheb Ambedkar and everything he stood for,” Gandhi said addressing a function organised here to mark B.R. Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary.

The Congress chief said that had Ambedkar lived, he would have fought against the BJP’s policies.

“Babasaheb Ambedkar fought against those forces who would discriminate against sections of our society,” she said, adding that the people who would sing praises for Ambedkar were the same who cut budgets for the uplift of OBCs.

She also criticised the BJP for political unrest in Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh, and said they “undermined democracy” in the two states.

“This is an attack on democracy,” she added.
