New Delhi, January 06: BJP today opposed Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s idea of levying cess on vehicles entering the national capital from outside.
Senior BJP leader V K Malhotra said the proposal to impose tax on outstation vehicles is not only “impractical” but also beyond the jurisdiction of the city government.
Criticising the move, Malhotra pointed out that on one hand Dikshit argues for a common taxation system for the entire National Capital Region and on the other she is planning to impose tax on vehicles from outside the city.
Questioning Delhi Government’s authority to impose such a tax, Malhotra said only the MCD has the jurisdiction to levy such a cess.
