Dwarka (Gujarat) [India]: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a harsh blow to the nation’s economy by introducing the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
The Congress vice-president while addressing the public on his three-day campaign for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections said that the Indian youth wants to work and wants to make the country but the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is, however, unable to give them employment.
While asserting that unemployment and farmer distress are two major issues for Gujarat and the nation Gandhi said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi, without anyone’s consent dealt a severe blow to the country’s economy. The Prime Minister went on to further hurt small businessmen by introducing the GST. They have no space in heart for the weak and poor sections of the society but they open all the doors for the rich people of the society. Unemployment and farmer distress are two important challenges before India and Gujarat.
He added that Prime Minister Modi had falsely assured that he would provide jobs to two crore youth every year.
“We asked the concerned minister in the Parliament that how many jobs were provided to the youth this year. The reply was: the BJP led Centre could only provide one lakh jobs to the youth in one year. Every day 30,000 youth search for a job and the government provides jobs to only 400. The young generation of this country wants to contribute to the development of the nation but the BJP led NDA government doesn’t provide them jobs,” Gandhi said.
He further said that if Congress comes to power in Gujarat then it would be the government of poor, farmers and youth.
“If you go to any district in India and ask the farmers whether they get right price of their yield, you’ll get an answer as ‘No’. Don’t know what happened to Prime Minister Modi last year that he imposed demonetization which worsened the lives of farmers and labourers who deal in cash. This government doesn’t have empathy for poor,” Gandhi asserted.
He asserted that the Congress feels that the most funding should go towards the development of education and health at all levels. (ANI)
