BJP MP’s daughter ‘kidnapped’ from outside his house

New Delhi, September 02: A BJP MP’s daughter was allegedly kidnapped from outside his Mahadev Road residence in New Delhi on Sunday.

The Lok Sabha MP from Western Uttar Pradesh lodged an FIR with the Parliament Street police station, alleging that his minor daughter had been “taken away by some unknown persons”. The police officers registered a case and were investigating the matter.

According to the complaint, the incident took place at around 11.40 pm last Sunday.

The girl is one of the three children of the MP, who was a Union minister during the NDA regime.

The MP told the police that his daughter, aged sixteen-and-a-half years, was wearing a dark kurta and jeans when she was ‘abducted’ by the unknown persons in a “dark colour car”. Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case on Monday under Section 363.

“We have registered an FIR and are looking into this incident. But I cannot give further details,” said Shankar Das, additional commissioner of police, New Delhi District.

Police sources said the girl, who studies in a convent school, might have been known to her ‘kidnappers’. Though they refused to part with details in view of the sensitive nature of the case, the policemen claimed to have got leads that would help them “locate the girl soon”. The alleged kidnapping was the second such incident involving a schoolgirl on Sunday.

In another case, a minor girl from a prestigious South Delhi school could not be found. The girl’s uncle, also her local guardian, lodged a complaint at the New Friends Colony police station. The complainant named a video jockey of a music channel as her kidnapper.

The police said they were careful while dealing cases involving kidnapping or disappearance of minor girls or boys under 12 years of age. “We immediately register an FIR in such cases according to the directions of the Delhi High Court. We can’t take chances,” a senior policeman said.
